I did it with the unit off my head with a pair of eyebrow type tweezers (I'm guessing thats what they were....the kind with the flat ends). I didn't thin the entire piece, only staggered the new hair...

Baking soda is high pH. It opens the cuticle. This makes the hair softer, but it is also what makes it lose color. Definitely use sparingly.....
