lightening the hair is tricky at best! (darkening is easy) you would be better off to put in a few subtle highlights to give an appearance of lighter hair rather than try to lighten the whole piece......

just apply a small amount of colorant to a comb and comb it through the hair, let process the directed amount of time....then rinse. I do recommend doing this when the unit if OFF your head as it can...
