After further googling I see where Abrams had testicular cancer in 2003 and kept it a secret. He underwent chemotherapy which explains his hair loss and obvious hairpiece a few years ago.

The way I've always reduced density is to wet the piece, put conditioner in it and use tweezers to pluck the hair out. By wetting the hair and using conditioner this will cause the entire hair to slid...

I would not recommend using thinning shears to reduce the density of over dense systems. It will leave a lot of short stubby hairs in between long hairs that can feel almost like a mohawk near the bas...

Started using sulfate free products about 7 years ago. Been using L'Oreal Everpure shampoo and conditioner for about 4 years and they really help the hair maintain its color.
