yes most pieces are not synthetic gray but indeed Yak. Even the company that I order from advertises synthetic but in fact it is yak hair.

Just use Dawn on dry hair on the ends only if that is where you see it. Be sure to condition it well after as Dawn is very alkaline and you will need to restore the pH to the hair
