I've died a piece with off the shelf Clairol hair dye, and I don't necessarily remember the color fading super fast, but my stylist recommended getting a better quality dye next time. Apparently the higher grade stuff lasts longer.

No matter what you're probably going to have to use a color infusing conditioner from time to time.
