Back then, Hollywoodââ¬â¢s elite had access to lace material that was very close in appearance to the swiss lace we use today. Problem was, it was made out of cotton and was so fragile it often didn't survive a one day movie shoot so it wasn't really practical for everyday wear and literally took a team of people to maintain due to the amount of hair loss and constant tearing in the fine cotton mesh. Because of this, it was too cost prohibitive for the average Joe to wear one so it was used mainly for Hollywood movies and the very wealthy to make public appearances when their hair was styled back. They basically wore them with their hair back just often enough to throw off public perception that they might be wearing a wig. Maxfactor was one of the hair replacement studios that put lace on the map back then and could be considered one of the pioneers that made it possible to wear the amazing hair systems we know today. The Chinese got their hands on the lace and made it better and more durable of course. Re: Shatner's Latest Full Cap - Jonesy123 - 12-14-2008 Interesting, thanks wantmorehair Re: Shatner's Latest Full Cap - thecount - 12-30-2008 I love the look Shatner achieved with his early pieces ... He must have had a genius of a stylist (Because it's evident .. that kind of craftsmanship doesn't exist in Hollywood today) Look back at Shatner's long career ... the black and white westerns ... twillight zone .. Star trek Series.... Matter of fact ... I think that virile, cool-styled doo he sported on the Starship Enterprise contributed to his longetivity of the series and of him in the industry .. It's only when he got into the longer styles ... like TJ Hooker ... where his hair began to look like a wig .... Still ... He wears his hair well today ... Must spend a fortune on it .... I wouldn't change it ... Many on this forum forget ... there are men who are well into their 60s and 70s .. with beautiful ... thick manes of natural hair .. that show no sign of receding ... Call it good genes ... But sometimes I think we go overboard to create a receding look ... which can be carried to the extreme and is not appealing ... Matter-of-fact, you have people staring at your hairpiece thinking ... yucch .. such nice hair ... but it's thinning rapidly ! Just my thoughts... Don't shoot the piano player ... Re: Shatner's Latest Full Cap - Snipe - 12-30-2008 Shat's piece is soooooooo obvious. If you think it's not then might want to get another opinion on your own piece. Sajak, now that is how you do a piece. No one ever suspected him of wearing. Re: Shatner's Latest Full Cap - Bangless - 12-30-2008 Snipe Wrote:Shat's piece is soooooooo obvious. But Sajak doesn't wear a piece. He did, however, play an April Fool's joke where he wore a full cap over a bald cap which you can find on YouTube.
