hi, i'm probably going to need hair replacement in the next year or two... i usually wear my hair short [and unfortunately have to use toppik right now]. i was wondering how this hairstyle would translate to a lace piece and what would help it look best?

Easy. And I would love to see pics of a ladies system this short.

I would say go with a pretty high density....75% maybe?? (John would be better to ask about this)

I would also send the factory this picture so they know you are going to cut it short otherwise you could end up with the upward ventilated sides like I got on my last order which would probably be fine for adding body to longer hair, but going that short it would cause the hair on the side to stick up at a 45 degree angle from the scalp.

You know, on second thought I would be careful about too much density. these things can get squirrely with higher densities. I think it would look fine even with 70%.

Eh....I'm a guy and I do lighter densities so maybe Dino or some of the others might have some suggestions.
