Could you please share how you use perming solution to change direction to "brush back " , on a unit that is vented "forward" ?

Anyone else know this procedure ?

Just pour some perming lotion on your hair, brush the direction you want it nice and firmly, and wait 20 minutes. Be careful not to overdo it because you don't want to weaken the hair too much and cause premature shedding.

Can the perming solution be applied to the piece (all skin) while attached?
is it just as easy as rinsing out and shampooing after the 20 mins?

What are the repercussions on things like body waves or curls?

Blacknail - Yes it is easiest to do it while wearing the piece. Then just rinse and shampoo out. But you may expect your bond to be weakened afterwards due to all the soaking and rinsing.

Hersute - i recommend this for fairly straight hair only. Perming lotion will take out curls and waves first put there by a similar technique. So if you have curly or wavy hair, this method is not for you.

Yeah, guys, you can use perming solution to "straighten" a piece with too much curl. But be careful about applying the solution too close to the base, because that will change the direction of the hair across the board. For example, if you have a free style piece and decided to saturate the piece and then comb it out evenly all the way around while attached to a styrofoam head, I think you'll wind up pretty much matting the piece all the way around -- it will lay very flat. All body (or at least a lot) will be lost. I speak from experience on that, because I did it. Not good. As such, unless you're wishing to change the actual direction of the shaft (such as wanting to turn a "forward" ventilated piece into a brush back piece), don't apply all the way (or even very close) to the base. Just apply it where the "bend" is that you want to eliminate or on the ends if you're trying to get straighter hair at the "blending" point.

But this isn't permanent right? Do you have to keep doing this? Id kind of be interested in this for a lower scale solution. Like areas of the hair system that are vented in the wrong way and stick up all the time etc..

Perming is a chemical process so yes, its permanent.
At least as much as dying the hair is permanent.
