Over the years I have been wearing hair and following these forums there have been 3 or 4 guys who have done what you are talking about - either two small patches, one for each side, or a bone-shaped piece (the two pieces joined together with a thin strip to provide a complete false hairline).

The verdict is that it is doable, if somewhat fiddly. However, the density, curl and colour have to be carefully matched to the surrounding natural hair so that you can get a proper blend.

There was a guy called Evan who posted as Oddlots who made a nice job of this. His piece was a complete false hairline. You might be able to find some pictures of him if you search around, or John may have some. I think he later lost more hair and moved on to a full topper.
