Hi - do you put the piece in the very hot water or do you let it cool down and then put the piece in?

I have done the baking soda soak several times. You simply pour approximately 1/2 cup of baking soda in one gallon of very hot water. Mix until the baking soda is dissolved and let your system soak in it for at least 4 hours or so. I leave mine soaking for a day or so. It works well.
