Lots of time people are 'sitting on the fence' wondering if the time is right for them to make the transition to a hair system. They wear caps and use concealers but they still see the inevitable hair loss progression. They could limb along a little longer and keep wearing a baseball cap and using the concealer. But often it's time to 'bit the bullet' and make the transition. The guy here knows that it's time to make the switch. He'll have to shave off that thin whispy hair for two reasons. First, the bases are translucent and allow the color of the scalp to show through the lace--any hair not shaven off will show through the base. Second, in order to get a firm attachment the tape or glue should be attached to skin.
