Conversation with my "unwitting" friends
I am currently in the final stages of my move from concealer to a system. My friends have been marvelling today at my "thicker hair". I have been telling them that I have been on Minox and propecia. They have been lapping it up. My hair is flat and combed forward at the minute, but I used to have gel in it and spiked up. My friend said to me "I will be impressed if you get it back spiky again" he he - I just hope that my system holds up to their scrutiny!

My friend did say something interesting though, I asked him why he never said anything about my hair getting thicker (as I grew it and kept adding consealer) and he said that its not something he ever noticed as people dont notice good hair, they notice bald heads.

No one seems to think that people use "wigs" anymore and lap up all this "hair implant" "propecia" crap - its a great cover story and I bet all the celebs are doing the same!

I will report back one have my fiirst system in place and have passed it by the "unwitting" friends.

Its interesting because there is a family member who I rarely see and If I do see them I'm thinking of what I'm going to say, I'm in a similaiar position using concealer and keeping my hair long, I may well use the same story.

Not sure celebs are doing it though, no doubt they will be going down the hair transplant road as I'm sure they would be found out i..e Movie stars needing different hair styles for different movies etc...

Yes I noticed your posts and that youre also from the uk - I think we have a lot in common as we are both about to embark on the same move from concealer to a system. May I ask what concealer you use/used? I use nanogens. Also, have you had many comments about your hair getting thicker?

With regards to celebs not using systems take a look at these:

Dec's (ant and dec) hair regrew "over night" ruling out a transplant. Its either concealer of a system:

Ben Affleck is also apparently at it:

And a heck of a lot more:

I found that when I looked on other balding sites (ones where all the users are into drugs/surgery over cosmetic intervention) the results picks people were putting up for propecia and transplants are just not what you are seeing in the celebrity world (look at the results will young has apparently achieved: http://www.baldingcelebrities.com/2010/0...young.html ) its just not realistic that drugs could produce such a full lush head of hair after such loss. It has to be cosmetic and that means concealer or a system of some type.

Like a lot of the articles say - they are only human! And if they are happy to create a massive cover up who are we not to take advantage of it! Big Grin

I used toppik for the past 5 years or so I wish I had used it when I first was losing my hair, it would have made things much easier. Especially as I started to get comments from people at work and a certain family member (I mentioned earlier)> But as I grew my hair and used concealers the comments stopped but I rarely ever see the family member. So friends and family are used to my hairstyle and I'm sure cant reemember 10 years ago that my hair was thinning (they'd have a job remembering last week lol) but as I havent seen that family member for a few years I know if I did they would mention my hair immediately so its nice to have a story incase they did.

The only problem I would have is if I did see that person it would probably be with the rest of my family so if they did make a comment not only would it be embarassing but also would make the rest of my family think about my hair....not good...I could always contact the person concerned before any possible family occassion.

Back to the celeb wigs, I have no doubt there are celebs going down the concealer / hair piece root, many of them no doubt will eventually I think go down the HT route, maybe covering their loss until the HT grows in but unless there is a dramatic change in their appearance or they are open about it like rooney we're just guessing.

Thats a good point mate, if you dont tell people all they CAN do is guess. That goes for your family. Another tip i have for you is to refer to your historic thinning as a bout of alopicia. People arnt so quick to comment when they think it was a medical condition. Its common for people to go thin in times of stress and doctors can pescribe minox to help solve it. If that doesnt embarress your family member into shutting up he/she will be making everyone else feel uncomfortable enough that they may say something to him/her...

Yeah thanks. Funny how sometimes I thought I was the only one doing this huge concealer job and worrying if I changed it how people who react but it seems theres plenty of others in a similiar boat, its comforting in a way.

Hope everything works out well for you.

Youre not alone mate, there are thousands if not millions of us all over the world. It is equally comforting for me to know people are out there also.

This community is brilliant, there is always someone here to lend an ear and offer some sound advice.
Good luck with your move too. Keep in touch and if you need some support, you know where to find me!

I'll be on here a bit especially after I recieve my first piece. I try not to go on some hairloss websites as they are quite frustrating for a variety of reasons. Things seem to be better on here.

those people are often depresed, because they dont see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Here on this forum everyone has a full head of hair and our only worrys are small compared to the guys on those sites. We found a light and we are able to fix our problems and that is the reason why this community (and the other hairpiece communitys) are a better place to write.
