Re: *Info Links* for Newbies - kevinme - 10-16-2009

Hey Folks,

I am complete novice/newbie/ etc and these links are amazing.

I've thought about wearing for about 2 years now, and I think it's the right thing to do, although, I feel a bit lost at times, but it's slowly coming together.

This site is amazing, and you guys/girls are great helping folk out.

I sealed the front of this new unit. Took it out of the mail and brushed the hair back then sealed the knots.

Then main thing is that you don't put too much sealer on the applicator. And as I progressed through
I pushed harder on the applicator. You don't need much and as you can see, you won't see it going on the lace, if you do you've got too much sealer on the applicator.

This is my process and works for me-try at your own risk.

Like I said, these are 2nd grade skills, just go easy on the sealer.

Debbies knot sealer works great, it is the first thing I do when I get a new unit. I have virtually no shedding on previous 4 units that I've sealed and still more than half bottle of sealer left. Each unit seems to only need one application for life of unit or if I have to do it again, say in a month or 2 I'll report back. I think it will last for 3 months at least though.

Lace cutting video - Snipe - 12-13-2009

Ok, there is no sound because I don't feel like having my voice put all over the internet.

OK, when you start cutting lace you can wet the hair down and brush in the direction of the lace you'll be keeping to minimize any hair that may get caught when cutting the lace. I DON'T do this because is minimizes the contrast between seeing the scissor blade and the hair behind it. I like to see the hair behind my scissor blade before I cut.

Look at the way I start the cut, I "catch" the edge of the lace with the pointed edge of the scissor blade and angle the blade upwards towards the lace, trying to get the hair beneath the blade so I can only see the lace, then the edge of the blade and no hair in between. I slide the blade back and forth until I get all the hair underneath the blade, you can see the pressure and angle when I'm sliding the blade, that one time it pokes through the lace as I'm trying to get the blade flush against the lace without any hair in between. When I'm satisfied that there is no hair between the lace and the scissor blade, I make the cut.
